Compassionate Care for Memory Support

We understand the challenges associated with memory loss for individuals, their families and caregivers. That is why we are here to help navigate difficult decisions and find opportunities to harness strengths and enhance well-being at any stage of dementia.

Whether residents are looking for independence in a more supportive care setting than traditional Assisted Living or need a higher level of Memory Care, our affiliates provide the necessary, personalized support.

Life Enrichment Programming

Residents enjoy all the amenities of Assisted Living with the added benefit of as much personal, memory-focused assistance as they need through our Assisted Living Memory Care’s Life Enrichment Memory Program (LEP).

Our LEP is open to those with an early-onset dementia diagnosis, offering residents a secure, specialized neighborhood in which to thrive—with beautiful, home-like environments and familiar, hands-on activities to promote connection and engagement.

This specialized program focuses on each of our residents as individuals—respecting their personal histories, preferences and routines for the best possible quality of life. Daily schedules accommodate resident routines to minimize confusion and maximize opportunities for success.

Meals are served restaurant-style with alternative menu options, and our teams learn resident preferences to encourage positive dining experiences. Snacks and hydration options are always available to support optimal health.

Memory Care Framework

Our approach to Memory Care follows the habilitation model—joining residents within their reality for a supportive life of dignity and respect. The habilitation model, developed by Dr. Paul Raia of the Alzheimer’s Association and author Joanne Koenig Coste, provides the framework for understanding, communicating and interacting with those living with dementia.

Certified Memory Care

Several of our skilled nursing affiliates offer a higher level of Memory Care for those residents with Alzheimer’s disease, or related dementia, who require more assistance than offered in an Assisted Living setting. Our Alzheimer’s/dementia programs are designated as Certified Dementia Special Care units by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Living an Engaged Lifestyle

Each community runs regular activities programming to keep residents engaged, involved and encouraged. Our Assisted Living Memory Care communities provide enhanced activities to accommodate resident interests and personal schedules, while our certified Alzheimer’s and dementia care units follow a more flexible schedule to accommodate personal preferences and routines. Our calendar of activities may include:

  • Cardio drumming
  • Chair yoga
  • Poetry reading
  • Trivia
  • Gardening
  • Sing-alongs and choir
  • Cooking and baking
  • Stretch exercises
  • Arts and crafts
  • Memory reflections
